Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 at Coulsdon Church of England Primary School

Year 6 is a special and exciting final year at Coulsdon Church of England Primary School. It is a year filled with challenge, achievement and memorable experiences, as pupils consolidate their learning, grow in confidence and prepare for the transition to secondary school.

Children are encouraged to take pride in their work, embrace responsibility and develop resilience as learners and leaders. While statutory assessments are part of the year, we place strong emphasis on enjoyment, personal development and ensuring pupils leave primary school with confidence, independence and a positive attitude to learning.

The Year 6 Residential – A Highlight of the Year

One of the most exciting parts of Year 6 is the residential trip, which is a much-anticipated highlight for pupils. This experience gives children the opportunity to build confidence, independence and teamwork skills while taking part in a range of adventurous outdoor activities.

The residential supports pupils to:

  • challenge themselves physically and mentally

  • work together and support one another

  • develop resilience, problem-solving and leadership skills

  • create lasting memories with their classmates

For many pupils, the residential is a defining moment of their primary school journey and plays an important role in preparing them for secondary school.

Expectations and Responsibilities

In Year 6, pupils are given increasing responsibility and are encouraged to act as positive role models within the school community. Classroom expectations are rooted in the Fruits of the Spirit, supporting reflection, respect and personal growth.

Pupils are supported to develop independence and resilience, helping them feel confident and ready for the next stage of their education.

Preparing for Secondary School

Year 6 plays a key role in preparing pupils for secondary school. Through high expectations, strong relationships and enriching experiences, pupils leave Coulsdon Church of England Primary School as confident, capable and resilient learners, ready for the challenges ahead.
